June 19th isn't just another day on the calendar. It's a commemoration that freedom can be delayed, but the fight for equality and justice will never truly be over. It isn't merely a celebration of historical facts. It's a celebration of the people and communities that persisted, built, and always continued showing up for one another, no matter how hard the fight may be.
This year, in 2026, let us embrace what this special day represents and why it's important. It is a day to honor history and celebrate resilience. It is also a day to recognize that in the day-to-day, there are always decisions to be made that permit everyone to thrive in dignity, with confidence, and with respect.
What Juneteenth Means and Why It Matters

July 4th is synonymous with cookouts, fireworks and independence, but there is another date on the American calendar with just as much weight to many Americans. That date is June 19th, 1865.
It was on this day that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that enslaved persons were free.
The war had ended just two months prior, and President Lincoln had already signed the Emancipation Proclamation two years earlier. Even so, the message did not reach all enslaved persons on time—either due to how slowly the information was transmitted or through the deliberate withholding of the information.
The day on which enslaved persons learned they were free would forever change how everyone involved felt and saw the world.
This day is now known as Juneteenth, a combination of the words "June" and "nineteenth." It has been a celebration held among Black American communities for well over 150 years, through cookouts, community events, music, family gatherings, church services, and more.
Juneteenth is such a unique day because it's not only a day that has been passed down as a tradition, but it has been kept alive because its meaning and purpose run deep within communities that have continuously come together to commemorate their ancestors, their history, and how far they have come as individuals, families and communities.
It's a tradition that lives on today simply because they chose to not let this memory fade.
In 2021, this commemoration was declared a federal holiday by the United States of America, acknowledging this day that had been observed for generations by millions of Black American citizens.
To many, this day is called America's second day of independence. It symbolizes freedom finally being attainable to the people who were previously denied it despite its availability.
The overall themes associated with Juneteenth—freedom, community, equality, resilience, and progress—are themes that are highly relevant and crucial to our present-day conversations while challenging us to assess not only how far we have come but also what work needs to be done.
Beyond its significance as a historical landmark, Juneteenth is a celebration of its own. The initial commemorations consisted of various dishes of delicious food, vibrant dancing, spiritual music and sharing stories of experience and life, and we continue this day with festivals, family gatherings, and an atmosphere of joy and excitement as we acknowledge both our past achievements and our hopes and expectations for the future.
Celebrating Black Women, Strength, and Everyday Confidence

The story and the strength of Black Americans throughout the centuries and the struggles encountered to get there are embodied in the Black woman.
From caring for their families in adverse conditions to serving as the "glue" of communities, Black women have led powerful movements that helped shape this country.
Whether through the spirit of resilience and courage of Harriet Tubman through the Underground Railroad, the work of journalists and pioneers like Ida B. Wells, or the thousands of women who organized, educated, supported, or led either from behind or from the forefront—Black women were there.
They were witnesses to the beginning of many American firsts.
Even as Black women represent some of the fastest-growing entrepreneurship in America, Black women have yet to be seen as equal when it comes to business development and leadership, developing an industry, or developing art and creation that influences or inspires.
It is important for people to see a person of color reflected and to recognize that even just one person acknowledging someone's contribution can be inspiring and is a reassurance you are not alone and you belong.
There must be attention drawn to women in all spaces, from wellness, media, business and fashion, where women can have their voices heard and their needs recognized
A woman should never have to morph herself into a space where she obviously doesn't belong.
Likewise, having strength should never lead to the assumption of discomfort on a woman's behalf.
Black women have endured a great deal, but their strength can't be seen as the only tool they use to get through their days. There is much that women endure, and their strength should never be a reason for expecting them to bear the weight of the world at all times.
Genuine confidence should be about owning what you have and how far you've come as well as understanding how to speak for, respect and have boundaries for yourself, and confidence should be the act of choosing not to shrink yourself for another person.
It is why June 19th is the perfect day to celebrate the millions of Black women who make conscious decisions every single day to overcome their trials
Why Comfort Is Part of Modern Self-Care

Self-care has become a bit of a cliché, somehow leading many to believe that it is synonymous with $100 facial masks and lavish weekend getaways.
But at its core, self-care is actually defined by simple things one can do in order to be healthy and stay healthy: sleep, food, taking breaks, physical activity, and comfortable clothing.
Far too often, we underestimate the sheer importance of physical comfort.
Ill-fitting or uncomfortable clothing is a major inconvenience in life. Uncomfortable underwear will scratch and chafe. The dig of a bra strap, scratchy materials, and more will cause you to become agitated and unable to focus.
Well-fitting clothing provides freedom and removes obstacles to feeling comfortable as you move throughout the day. Ultimately, clothing becomes an additional supporter for your body rather than a burden.
A small upgrade in comfort can make a big impact on daily well-being.
The key is that it's not necessarily a mutually exclusive thing; style and comfort go hand in hand.
Style, Freedom, and Feeling Good in Your Own Body

Freedom is multi-faceted in its definitions, both historically and culturally, yet in its essence, isn't it intimately personal
Feeling free in your own body is quite possibly one of the most intimate experiences of freedom we can allow ourselves.
For years, our fashion industry only embraced certain types of bodies and dismissed all others. This led countless women to compromise and accept whatever was available rather than what they actually wanted to feel and be
Fortunately, things are changing. All of our bodies are now worthy of dignity, comfort, love, and representation.
Many brands are responding by offering more size variations, and the body positivity movement celebrates the rejection of the idea that we must earn comfort, confidence, or the right to self-expression. Jelly bras are a practical example of this: supportive, size-inclusive, and built around comfort rather than restriction.
Every woman should be able to wear clothes that speak to her authentic self, not who she feels she needs to be.
The styles that Black women wear are often expressions of their identity, culture, and uniqueness, and that allows them to build confidence.
You don't have to wait to feel good in your body. We encourage you to appreciate your body, not change it.

Happy Juneteenth 2026
Juneteenth is a day of happy celebration, and it is also a solemn day.
It is a day to celebrate the tenacity and strength of a people who endured hardship. It honors a community that remembered its story through songs, customs, and the generations that built and paved the way to a brighter future.
As we commemorate Juneteenth 2026, let us remember freedom. Freedom is both something that we remember from the past and something that we live out each day in all that we do; we live freedom in how we look after ourselves, care for our neighbors, and love our loved ones.
Happy Juneteenth 2026!
